Microworld installation

Eighteen Microworlds have been successfully exhibited around the world. They use readily available technology and are straight-forward to install.

Each Microworld exhibition is modular. Every installation is different and we will tailor your Microworld to your space. Some Microworld pieces can be customised, responding to your artefacts and natural history collection.

Requirements

Each piece uses at least one computer, one projector and one sensor. We will provide the computers and sensors with pre-installed software. We can also provide projectors and speakers or we can work with your projection setup. We recommend a minimum floor space of about 100sqm but it can be much bigger. The space needs to be dark, preferably without windows and with blank walls to project onto. The projectors can be wall or ceiling-mounted.

Production

Lumen Arts Projects has over a decade of experience in the field and can advise and collaborate with you. We can help you to design your exhibition from scratch. For example, a truss system can be used to position projectors mid-space. Furniture can be designed to house the equipment in a safe and secure way. Seating can be included.

Installation

We are happy to install the shows in collaboration with your technical staff. A typical install will take one week. If you want to install the show yourself we can provide detailed instructions and guide you through balancing the software for your space.

Technology

All the content of Microworld is programmed by Genetic Moo using the Processing language. This is free and open source and happily runs cross-platform. Several of the pieces are browser-based.

We use RemotePC on all computers to make turning on/off easy and make any adjustments needed.

This was my first experience curating a digital, interactive exhibition, and it was a joy to work with Lumen Art Projects and Genetic Moo. The responsive and fully immersive nature of Microworld engendered a spirit of play within visitors of all ages, as they explored the intersection of art, science and technology.
